Italian oilfield services company, Saipem, has announced its technological solution for the production of green hydrogen and the conversion of oil and gas facilities.
The solution, named SUISO, is Saipem’s response to the growing demand for green hydrogen production. Production is fuelled by various renewable energy sources such as floating solar, floating wind and marine energy in a single system.
By utilising these forms of energy, green hydrogen can be produced through electrolysers installed on existing offshore platforms.
The technology also allows for the conversion of oil & gas offshore facilities which have reached the end of their life cycle. Any resulting oxygen can be used in the aquaculture or seaweed production industries.
Commenting on the solution, Francesco Caio, CEO, Saipem, said, “The SUISO brand is an example of Saipem’s ability to find innovative and sustainable solutions to lead its clients in the energy transition.”
“The solution is adaptable to the changing characteristics of the marine sites and to the different production needs.”
“The know-how gained in the design and execution of infrastructures and technologically advanced plants allows Saipem to cover the green hydrogen production value chain and to be a strategic partner in the path towards a net zero economy.”
Saipem will partner with power plant consultant QINT’X to use its SUISO technology in the AGNES project, the offshore energy hub that is due to be built off the Adriatic coast of Ravenna.
