Sensirion, a leading manufacturer of humidity and temperature sensors, has unveiled a new high-accuracy digital temperature sensor, the STS3x.

The new sensor is based on the same chip as the SHT3x humidity sensors and comes in a tiny eight-pin DFN pack-age measuring only 2.5 X 2.5 mm2 with a height of 0.9 mm. Its tiny size and the wide supply voltage range of 2.4 V to 5.5 V allow for integration in a great variety of applications.

The sensor delivers a ‘remarkably high’ accuracy of +/–0.3°C over an extensive temperature range combined with low power consumption – an especially important consideration for battery-operated devices.

The industry-proven CMOSens® technology is the basis of the STS3x sensor, offering increased intelligence, reliability, and improved accuracy compared to its predecessors, the company says. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrates a very fast start-up and response time, and its functionality includes enhanced signal processing, two distinctive and user selectable I2C addresses and communication speeds of up to 1 MHz.
