Servomex has revealed to gasworld that is to design and supply a complete gas monitoring system for a new Pure Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant being built in Portugal by Artenius, a subsidiary of chemical company La Seda de Barcelona S.A, at Sines in Portugal.
To be installed at the Sines plant in Portugal, Servomex will supply seven SERVOTOUGH SpectraExact (2500) process gas analysers and seven SERVOTOUGH OxyExact (2200) process oxygen analysers.
The UK-based company will also be managing the design and build of the overall analyser system for the Sines plant – building on its status as a world leader in PTA gas analysis, having installed monitoring systems for no less than 12 PTA plants worldwide in just five years.
The agreement, contracted to Servomex through Aker Solutions UK, will cover the supply of analysers, sampling systems, spare parts and service to Sines, which will produce 700,000 tons per year of PTA - a primary material used in the manufacture of PET packaging.
Chris Cottrell, Managing Director of Servomex, reflected on the deal, “We enjoy a good relationship with both Artenius and Aker Solutions, so Servomex is delighted to have been chosen not only for our analysers but for our ability to provide a single, total solution for the gas monitoring requirements at Sines.”
Equally enthusiastic was Rafael Español, President of La Seda de Barcelona. He added, “The agreement reached with Servomex will allow us to monitor and control gases as part of our rigorous safety procedures.”
“It will also help limit our environmental impact and deliver an important cost reduction in building additional infrastructure for the new Sines plant.”
In addition to supplying proven analyser technology, Servomex was chosen by Artenius on the basis of proven expertise in the installation of gas monitoring systems for PTA production.
While a typical system at PTA plants brings the process monitoring system together within a single, purpose-built analyser house, Servomex has for this project recommended placing each analyser close to each measurement take-off point.
By removing the need for both a bespoke analyser house and associated cabling and piping requirements, the result is an impressive cost saving and the reduction of additional infrastructure.
The SpectraExact series of photometric process analysers offers single or dual component measurement to suit virtually any process, combustion or emissions gas analysis application, while the OxyExact utilises Servomex’s high specification paramagnetic oxygen transducer technology for optimum process and safety control in general and high temperature applications.
