During the EIGA Symposium 2011, gasworld discovered that Todd Skare has become the new Vice President of the association, and accordingly will take over the Presidency from Stefan Messer in two years time.
Phil Brickell, General Secretary for the European Industrial Gases Association, EIGA, broke the news to gasworld during the EIGA Process Safety Symposium which took place earlier this week. The announcement was formalised before the EIGA Council in the evening of 25th January 2011.
The subsequent day saw Skare make his first public address at the Symposium Welcome Reception, where he welcomed attendees in lieu of Stefan Messer. Messer, current EIGA President and CEO of the Messer Group GmbH, was unable to appear due to previous commitments. Nevertheless, Skare held the floor, welcoming guests by highlighting the significance of the symposium, in what will be the first of many similar public addresses.
Todd Skare already enjoys a high profile within the industrial gases community, in his capacity as President of Praxair Europe.
Nevertheless, Symposium attendees weren’t denied the chance to hear Stefan Messer speak. Indeed, though unable to attend the evening reception, Messer opened proceedings on 26th January, Wednesday morning. During his opening speech, the EIGA President placed the onus on attendees to make the 17th EIGA symposium as successful as its predecessors.
Messer remarked, “It is the responsibility of everyone and it will require the support, effort and commitment of all of us to make this symposium a success… I hope you will enjoy the next two days and that you will learn from the speakers.”
“By the end of this symposium I am convinced that you will not just be better informed, but you will know what to do in your own position, within your own company, to improve process safety,” Messer concluded.
