36th AIIGMA Seminar review

Even though the political unrest in Thailand and violent protests that followed in January led to the 36th All India Industrial Gases Manufacturers Association (AIIGMA) Seminar being rescheduled from February to April – the event still informed and educated attendees on industry best practices and the increasing importance of safety.

Over 100 delegates attended the event, which was held at the prestigious Shangri-La Hotel in Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok, although this number was clearly reduced from the usual crowd of about 140 gas professionals that these events usually attract. It was, however, stated by many the reduction in numbers attending was due to the date change.

The event began with a welcome cocktail evening, sponsored by Mack Valves, with an evening dinner co-hosted by Praxair India Pvt, Ltd and XAL/Seva held on Sunday 13th of April.
The following morning, the agenda began with much pomp and prestige as members of the AIIGMA committee began the morning session. This was packed with ceremonial inaugurations, welcome addresses, the presentation of gifts and scheduled time for pictures.

The first session of the event began at midday with the Linde Group’s Member of the Executive Board, Sanjiv Lamba, beginning with his presentation on ‘Industrial Gases – Intrinsic to India’s Growth’. Lamba said, “I grew up in the Indian gases sector so I am thankful for what I learned from there to hold the position I do now. Whatever happens in any one part of the world will affect you today. We live in a very connected world.”
