Air Liquide strengthens healthcare offering with two European acquisitions

Air Liquide has strengthened its healthcare offering, having today (9th April) announced the acquisition of two homecare businesses in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The industrial gas giant has not unveiled the names of the entities but says that they support 10,000 patients living with respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnea syndrome, or requiring infusion or nutrition treatments.

With a turnover of more than €10m in 2023, the businesses are supported by around 50 employees who have joined Air Liquide.

Diana Schillag, Member of Air Liquide’s Executive Committee in charge of Healthcare, Sustainable Development, and Procurement, said she is delighted to strengthen the company’s position in the growing marketplace.

She continued, “As a major player in home healthcare throughout the world, our ambition is to improve the quality of life of patients to best meet their needs at the lowest cost to society, thereby contributing to more efficient and sustainable healthcare systems.”

Air Liquide’s international home healthcare brand, VitalAire, is already active in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. It draws on medico-technical expertise and has experience in personalised support for patients and in the development of associated digital services.

In July 2023, Air Liquide announced a project to address the needs and expectations of patients and healthcare professionals in France, in addition to adapting the company’s business model to meet the challenges of the healthcare system.

The project involves reshaping the operational organisation of one of the group’s main homecare entities, Pharma Dom, simplifying its brand portfolio, and regrouping some of its locations.

In addition to bringing together cross-functional roles within a single entity, the project also set a goal to incorporate a technology investment plan to optimise processes and facilitate the work of teams for patient care.
