Air Products anticipates next generation device buzz


In the same week that Apple announced unprecedented sales of its next generation devices, Air Products also announced the expansion of its Californian electronic production facility which helps produce these in vogue accessories.

The facility, located in Calrsbad, California, will benefit from upgraded laboratory facilities to support the scale-up of new products. In particular, the laboratory will see new tools for product development and process demonstration, while the analytical labs are also being extended. Thanks to the expansion, new materials developed in Carlsbad will help enable next-generation consumer devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.

Jim Giolitto, Business Manager of Electronic Materials Chemicals remarked, “Demand for these innovative new products is growing rapidly.” He added, “This investment in the Carlsbad development labs supports the introduction of new products such as our AP-LTO® and AP-LTN® chemical precursors for use in depositing modified silicon nitride and oxide films in various deposition processes including Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Plasma Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition (PEALD), and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).”

Indeed, demand is clearly blossoming for these new products. The technology firm, Apple recorded quarter two fiscal growth of almost double, thanks largely to the high sales of next-generation tablets and smart devices. Between January and March 2011, the international brand sold 4.7million iPads. This success was perhaps best summarised by Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, who commented, “With quarterly revenue growth of 83% and profit growth of 95%, we’re firing on all cylinders.”
