Air Products to expand ‘world’s largest’ carbon monoxide pipeline with two new plants

Air Products will build, own, and operate two new carbon monoxide facilities in Texas with a combined capacity of 70 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

Located in La Porte and Texas City, the two plants will be connected to the industrial gas giant’s existing Gulf Coast carbon monoxide pipeline network – believed the be the largest in the world.

The La Porte facility will be the first plant to come onstream, with start-up planned for 2024. The Texas City unit will later come online in 2026.

Once operational, the Texas City unit will produce over 40 mmscfd of carbon monoxide, making it the world’s largest single source. Air Products has already confirmed that a vast majority of the carbon monoxide will be supplied to chemical industry company Eastman.
