Argent LNG evaluates Honeywell pre-treatment tech for natural gas

US energy company Argent LNG is assessing the use of pre-treatment technology from Honeywell, a global technology and manufacturing business, to remove contaminants from natural gas at its Port Fourchon project in Louisiana.

Honeywell is hoping to supply its mercury removal unit, its acid gas removal unit, and its SeparSIV unit to eliminate mercury, carbon dioxide, sulphur, water and heavy hydrocarbons.

The company completed a $1.81bn purchase of Air Products’ LNG process technology and equipment business last year. It is now offering more LNG product lines.

Jonathan Bass, CEO of Argent LNG, highlighted the importance of pre-treatment to support the delivery of LNG.

Argent LNG’s planned Port Fourchon facility hopes to produce 12 million tonnes of LNG a year. It could later be expanded to produce 24 million tonnes of LNG a year, making it one of the world’s largest export terminals.

The first phase of construction is scheduled for 2026, with commercial operations expected in 2030.

The facility will export LNG to Asia, Europe, South America, and the Middle East.

The Shell LNG Outlook 2025 predicts global LNG demand will rise by 60% by 2040. The US Energy Information Administration has noted that in 2023 the US became the world’s largest LNG exporter, with Louisiana accounting for 61% of those exports through its Gulf Coast ports.
