BASF pioneers large-scale metal-organic framework for carbon capture

Chemicals and industrial solutions specialist BASF has announced that it has produced metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) at a world-first production scale of several hundred tonnes per year.

To be integrated into the carbon capture technology of Canadian technology provider Svante Technologies Inc. (Svante), the MOFs will offer high capacity storage of carbon dioxide (CO2), the dehumidification of air for room climate control and the adsorption of the greenhouse gas methane.

The partnership saw BASF’s team of researchers, scale-up experts, and engineers, effectively translate Svante’s lab-scale formula into a secure large-scale production process.
