Argon has many uses in industry, enterprise and science, from specialist lighting to its use in radioisotope dating of rocks to its well-known applications as a shield gas in welding and increasingly as an important element in some kinds of 3D printing.
But there’s one gigantic state-backed specialist science project that’s unfolding in South Dakota that is poised to make use of super-cooled argon on a huge scale – and the past 12 months has seen good progress made, including numerous successful tests.
