BOC’s Barry Lyons, Business Development Manager for Refrigerants, has been honoured for a lifetime’s work in the Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning HVAC industry with the presentation of the Alan Moor award at this year’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR) News awards.

Barry started his career more than 50 years ago as an apprentice with York Shipley. Since then he has held a wide range of roles within the refrigeration industry. He has served on a number of industry technical committees, helping to develop the standards and protocols used in this sector. He has been part of specialist working groups of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Board (ACRIB), the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) and the British Refrigerants Association (BRA). He has also served on Government advisory committees addressing issues facing the industry.

Over the last two years, Barry has been particularly involved in helping the industry plan for the phase-out of HCFC refrigerants. This has been a particular challenge for a number of industrial sectors given the widespread use of R22.

The award was presented to Barry in recognition of his 50 years service to the industry at a gala dinner held at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge ground. Mike Dennis, Business Director for BOC’s Bulk and Packaged Gases, said: “This award is a well-deserved recognition by the industry of the first class service and support Barry has given to the HVAC sector over many years.”
