CAIRE completes MGC Diagnostics acquisition

Oxygen therapy and on-site generation systems provider CAIRE Inc. has finalised the acquisition of MGC Diagnostics Holdings, Inc., a Minnesota-based non-invasive cardiorespiratory diagnostic systems manufacturer.

The purchase of MGC strengthens CAIRE’s position and focus on diagnostic technologies, with MGC’s brand of invasive cardiorespiratory diagnostic systems, accessories, and consumables for the detection, classification, and management of cardiorespiratory disease being added to the CAIRE portfolio.

Across its facilities in Belgium, Germany, France and Australia,  MGC also offers pulmonary function testing systems, cardiopulmonary exercise systems, spirometers, flow sensors, gas analysers and associated consumables.

Earl Lawson, President and CEO of CAIRE, said the move will help better serve patents in a more holistic way – improving their quality of care throughout their whole treatment journey.

Lawson added, “With MGC, we address the needs of patients early in the progression of pulmonary disease with a proven portfolio of equipment that addresses awareness and diagnostic tools for the healthcare provider and clinician.”

The third leading cause of death worldwide, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) affects 65 million patients globally, with diagnoses accelerated by an increasingly ageing population. Combined with the 300 million patients worldwide who suffer from asthma, these populations are responsible for more than $100bn annually in healthcare spending.

Used to treat the full spectrum of early to late-stage COPD, CAIRE’s oxygen solution portfolio includes portable, low or moderate flow concentrators and high flow portable, reservoir and stationary concentrators.

Todd Austin, CEO of MGC, added, “The additional resources that CAIRE and its parent NGK Spark Plug offer will enable the MGC business to accelerate its plans for expansion and growth to better serve respiratory patients around the globe.”

CAIRE was acquired by Japan-based auto parts manufacturer NGP Spark Plug in 2018 as part of its long-term goal to invest resources in the medical sector.
