Carbon Sciences pushes forward ‘game changing’ technology


The innovative technology firm, Carbon Science, Inc has announced plans to accelerate development of its breakthrough CO₂ to fuel technology.
Leading the way in Chemical Engineering, Carbon Sciences is working to transform greenhouse gases into liquid portable fuels, such as gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Given the current environmentally aware era, innovations such as this would be as valued as turning lead to gold.
Carbon Sciences’ technology is based upon a high performance catalyst for the efficient transformation of CO₂ and methane gas into a synthesis gas, which may subsequently be processed into gasoline or other fuels. The fundamental reaction being catalysed in this process is known as CO₂ reforming of methane. In the past, industry has attempted to manage this, but up until now, research fell short of achieving a sufficiently robust catalyst.
According to Carbon Sciences, the firm could re-write the oil and gas industry with the latest development. Indeed, it would enable local production of transportation fuels near greenhouse and natural gas sites, as well as encouraging global energy independence. CEO for Carbon Sciences, Byron Elton, described, “We believe we have the most robust catalyst in the world for CO₂ reforming of methane. Laboratory scale tests show greater than 90% percent conversion efficiency over 2,000 hours, with no detectable byproducts and very little catalyst deactivation.”
According to the firm, it will instigate a committed and highly focused development plan to ensure the performance of its catalyst in a commercial setting. Elton affirmed, “We are energized, focused and excited about our development plans. Our technology foundation is solid, our team is best of breed and our vision is clear. While there are still hurdles to overcome, we are working from a strong base with a clear path to commercialization. Now, we must execute and develop this transformative technology that we believe can help solve the world’s energy and climate problems.”
