Chile’s GNL Quintero, South America’s first liquefied natural gas re-gasification terminal, has now received its first shipment of LNG and is ploughing ahead with plans to start full operation in August.
It’s thought that the new re-gasification terminal will allow Chile to diversify its energy supplies.
Energy Minister Marcelo Tokman welcomed the Methane Jane, which sailed from Trinidad and Tobago, and noted how energy security at competitive costs will be felt ‘within a few weeks’.
The first LNG shipment will be used for commissioning and testing the terminal, making it ready for the start of full operations in August.
