China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has put what it believes to be China’s first and the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank into service.
The 270,000 cubic meter tank is now operational at Sinopec’s Shandong-based Qingdao LNG Receiving Terminal. It will add 165 million cubic meters of storage capacity to meet the gas demand of 2.15 million households for five months during the winter.
Designed, developed, and built by Sinopec, the tank features 17 patented technologies with intellectual property. The main structure was completed in only 18 months and it’s in full service within 27 months.
In conjunction with the storage tank news, Sinopec has also announced the completion of phase two of its Tianjin LNG Receiving Terminal, with three 220,000 cubic meter storage tanks coming into full service.
