Climeworks signs DAC deal with LEGO Group

Climeworks has signed a $2.4 million carbon removal deal with LEGO Group.

The nine-year agreement was signed with the group and KIRKBI, the brand’s family-owned holding and investment company – which also signed a separate $405,000 ‘long term’ agreement for carbon removal services.

Annette Stube, Chief Sustainability Officer at the LEGO Group, said it was the first large toy company to announce a science-based emissions reduction target in 2020 and it wants to continue to “lead the way in finding innovative solutions for the challenges we face”.

Michael Skou, KIRKBI’s Head of Strategy and Sustainability, said in addition to ongoing efforts to reduce the company’s emissions, it wants to explore and support impactful climate solutions that have the potential to permanently remove and sequester hard to abate greenhouse gas emissions.
