DAC: First-of-its-kind carbon capture facility planned in California; Capture6 uses saltwater as solvent

Capture6, a direct air capture (DAC) start-up, and Palmdale Water District (PWD) have announced plans to build a joint pilot facility to produce freshwater resources and simultaneously increase carbon removal in California, US.

The Pure Water Antelope Valley Demonstration Facility, which includes Capture6’s Project Monarch, will be the first fully integrated water management and carbon dioxide (CO₂) removal facility of its kind.

gasworld has been told the project is so exciting because it addresses both the critical need to cost-effectively dispose of brine, while also recovering additional water for reuse and removing the carbon. As a result, it effectively supports climate resiliency on two key fronts – carbon removal and water sustainability.
