Denmark accelerates development of CCS chain


Development of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chain in Denmark is progressing after the Greenport Scandinavia project consortium welcomed new member Wintershall Dea (Wintershall).

Having joined yesterday (1st Dec 2022), the company will contribute to the establishment of a carbon dioxide (CO2) hub near Hirtshals on the Danish North Sea coast.

To be located at the northern tip of Denmark, the hub will act as a collection point for CO2 generated during the production of biogas in regional plants.

Once collected, the gas will then be transported by ship to the Project Greensand to be permanently stored in a depleted oil reservoir.
