Energy firms join forces to develop offshore UK green hydrogen production

European clean energy group Lhyfe will work together with services and solutions specialist Centrica to develop a pilot green hydrogen production site in the Southern North Sea to accelerate green hydrogen as part of the energy transition in the UK.

Having signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partners will combine their respective expertise to advance the safe storage and utilisation of hydrogen in the UK with an aim to showcase end-to-end hydrogen production, storage and distribution within the country.

An additional project will see both firms exploring the deployment of technology at commercial scale alongside offshore wind electricity production.

Stating that the agreement represents an exciting opportunity to drive forward the clean energy transition, Colin Brown, UK and Ireland Country Manager at Lhyfe, explained that offshore electrolysis coupled with hydrogen storage will maximise the ‘huge potential’ of offshore wind around the UK.
