Excelerate Energy signs LNG purchase deal with QatarEnergy

Texas-based Excelerate Energy has signed a 15-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales and purchase agreement with QatarEnergy, through which it will purchase up to one million tonnes per annum to support energy requirements in Bangladesh.

Announced today, the deal will see LNG deliveries begin in January 2026. Excelerate will purchase 0.85 million tonnes per annum of LNG in 2026 and 2027 and one million tonnes per annum from 2028 to 2040.

Steven Kobos, President and CEO of Excelerate Energy, described the supply agreement with Qatar Energy, the world’s largest LNG supplier, as a new milestone.

He continued, “Qatar delivers approximately 10% of its current annual LNG production through Excelerate FSRUs and we are pleased to unlock further new demand in the markets where we operate.”

“This agreement highlights our ability to secure critical and affordable LNG volumes for our customers with increasing natural gas demand while driving stable, long-term economic uplift on our existing infrastructure.”

With a strong presence in Bangladesh’s LNG market, Excelerate Energy developed and operates Bangladesh’s first floating LNG terminal. The Moheshkhali floating LNG terminal has up to 500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day of regasification capacity.

The project is a result of the collaboration between Excelerate Energy, Petrobangla, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is mandated to provide and arrange the required financing for the terminal.

Excelerate Energy’s involvement in Bangladesh’s LNG market supports the country’s energy strategy, addressing needs while also aligning with longer-term sustainability goals.
