First Commercial Hydrogen Fuelling Station Opens at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

In a drive to support cleaner energy, Praxair/BP and Key Stakeholders were joined by Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger to open the states first retail-designed hydrogen fuelling station in Californias LAX.

The BP and Praxair fuelling station will be used to fuel hydrogen powered demonstration cars supplied by DaimlerChrysler for the use by the airport. The airport currently has about 50% of its vehicle fleet using alternative fuels such as natural gas.

The opening on October 22nd was used by the Governor of California to introduce the hydrogen-fuelled prototype by General Motors, the Hummer. The new hydrogen fuelling station advances Governor Schwarzeneggers California Hydrogen Highway Network, an initiative to support and catalyse a rapid transition to a clean, hydrogen transportation economy in California.

Joining the Governor on stage was Scott Kaltrider, Praxairs vice president, North American Industrial Gases. Hydrogen presents a golden opportunity for the Golden StatePraxair is pleased to deliver the cutting-edge technology that allows hydrogen to be produced, stored, and dispensed at a retail-designed hydrogen fuelling station.
