Gas safety lessons from Grenfell fire report

The Grenfell Tower fire was the culmination of “decades of failure” by central government and other bodies in positions of responsibility in the construction industry, according to its Official Report.

While the mammoth 1,700-page phase 2 report attaches no direct blame for the June 14 2017 fire to the gas industry, finding “the supply of gas to the tower did not play a significant part in the outbreak or development of the fire”, failings were cited and recommendations made for developers, contractors and engineers.

The report was produced by Chairman The Rt. Hon Sir Martin Moore-Bick, Ali Akbor OBE and Thouria Istephan.
