Helium and CO2 processing plant approved at Colorado’s Galactica project

Helium exploration company Blue Star Helium has received approval to develop a helium and carbon dioxide processing plant at the Galactica project in Colorado.

The state’s Board of County Commissioners said that Blue Star had demonstrated a clear need for the processing facility and the location and plans were suitable.

Trent Spry, Managing Director and CEO of Blue Star, said the news was significant for the project.

Helium One, another helium exploration company with a primary focus in Tanzania, holds a 50% working interest in the Galactica project.

Earlier this month, the Galactica helium project showed early return concentrations of helium (1.18%), carbon dioxide (85.93%) and nitrogen (12.89%), following Jackson 4 well flow tests and gas analysis.

The Galactica project is part of the broader Galactica-Pegasus development, discovered by Blue Star Helium in 2022. The large-scale project offers multiple potential product streams.

Blue Star Helium aims to start the project in the first half of 2025 and forecasts $2m a year over five years.
