India unlocks $8m funding for green hydrogen projects
India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is embarking on a $7.8m funding spree for four green hydrogen projects under the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s central financial assistance (CFA) scheme – an initiative that aims to accelerate deployment of the green molecule as a clean energy source.
The projects are located in areas known as Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVICs) where hydrogen is used across various sectors and where it is being actively promoted as a sustainable energy source.
Under the initiative, a project in Pune being developed by the National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) will receive $2m, while a project in Kerala spearheaded by clean energy research organisation ANERT will be allocated $2.4m.
Two projects led by the Indian Institutes of Technology will receive $1.7m (in Bubaneswar) and $1.6m (in Jodhpur), respectively.
