Duke Energy’s Lincoln Combustion Turbine Station, powered by Siemens Energy’s SGT6-9000HL (60Hz) turbine, has scooped the official Guinness World Records title for the ’most powerful simple-cycle gas power plant’ with an output of 410.9MW.

Siemens Energy installed and is currently testing its SGT6-9000HL turbine at Duke Energy’s station near Denver, about 25 miles north of Charlotte. The new unit, due to be fully operational in 2024, can generate enough energy to power more than 300,000 homes.

The SGT6-9000HL is designed to run longer between maintenance cycles and will be about 34% more efficient than existing combustion turbines on site.

Karim Amin, Executive Board Member at Siemens Energy, said, “Power output, efficiency and operational flexibility are crucial elements for the decarbonisation of the energy sector. This title demonstrates our capability as a technology leader working together with Duke Energy to accelerate the path towards net-zero emissions.”
