Linde earns spot on 2024 World’s Most Ethical Companies

Industrial gas major Linde has found itself on Ethisphere’s 2024 World’s Most Ethical Companies list for the fourth year in a row.

The yearly list showcases firms committed to business integrity via top-tier ethics, compliance and governance. Companies undergo a thorough evaluation in five areas: ethics & compliance, environmental & social impact, ethical culture, governance and third-party management.

Linde is the only industrial gases company included in the 2024 list, which comprised 136 honourees from 20 countries across 44 industries.

“Linde’s gases and technologies are used every minute of every day around the world,” said Sanjiv Lamba, CEO at Linde. “Our teams work with customers, suppliers and communities across every sector, and they do so while upholding the highest levels of ethics and integrity.”

Part of the company’s success as an ‘Ethical Company’ comes down to its focus on employee engagement, for which the company undertakes an annual survey.

According to Lamba, who spoke recently with gasworld as part of an exclusive interview, this year its employee engagement results stood at 76%.

“Anything above 65 is considered good. Anything about 70 is considered great, but we’re not satisfied with 76 because we are in 2024, so the number has to improve, right?” he said.

“We are challenging ourselves to constantly improve. That’s the spirit with which we look at these things, we want to be the best performing on employee engagement.”

The recognition comes less than week after Linde scored higher than any other industrial gas company in S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2024.

Published annually, the Yearbook honours top global companies for sustainable practices. Selected based on S&P Global’s sustainability assessment, it includes firms ranking in the top 15% of their industry.

In the last year, Linde advanced its 2035 science-based absolute greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal, disclosed all Scope 3 emissions categories with a large portion externally audited and boosted R&S investment in decarbonisation.

“Every day we live our mission of making our world more productive sustainably,” said Tamara Brown, Vice President of Sustainability at Linde. “Our teams around the world are laser-focused on creating long-term value for all our stakeholders, from helping customers achieve their climate goals to fostering more resilience in our communities.”
