Linde tops industrial gas companies in S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2024

Linde has been recognised as one of the world’s most sustainable companies in S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2024 and scored higher than any other industrial gas company.

Published annually, the Sustainability Yearbook recognises some of the world’s largest companies for sustainable business practices. Based on S&P Global’s corporate sustainability assessment, the yearbook comprises companies scoring in the top 15% of their industry.

Around 7,800 companies were ranked in this year’s publication.

Tamara Brown, Vice-President of Sustainability at Linde, said, “Every day we live our mission of making our world more productive sustainably. Our teams around the world are laser-focused on creating long-term value for all our stakeholders, from helping customers achieve their climate goals to fostering more resilience in our communities.”

She added, “It is encouraging to see this commitment recognised by S&P Global.”

Over the past year, Linde has reported progress on its 2035 science-based absolute greenhouse gas emissions reduction target. It also published a declaration of all categories of Scope 3 emissions, with a significant portion externally audited, and increased R&D spending on decarbonisation.

Linde forecasts up to $50bn of clean energy investments in the next decade, spanning three pillars: decarbonising Linde; enabling its customers to decarbonise; and new market opportunities.

In an exclusive interview with gasworld, CEO Sanjiv Lamba confirmed the company stands by this figure.

“We are moving forward with plans on that and of that $50bn figure, I expect $3bn+ to go towards decarbonising our existing hydrogen facilities by retrofitting them for carbon capture and then working with partners for carbon storage and sequestration to decarbonise those sites – and ensure there is low-carbon intensity hydrogen available for our customers,” he said.
