Linde Electronics has joined forces with PEPPER – an European Union funded research project. The new scheme aims to enhance performance and reduce the cost of thin film silicon modules over a three year period.
PEPPER is being led by Oerlikon Solar, a leading thin film silicon photovoltaic (PV) solution provider. The group has benefited from funding received under the Framework Programme for Research of the European Union, in co-ordination with the DG Energy of the European Commissions.
The PEPPER scheme took shape on 1st September 2010 and has so far involved €16.7m investment, of which €9.4m was provided by the European Commission. Linde has described an affinity between its corporate goals and that of PEPPER. In particular, the two share a commitment to the discovery of cost efficient wattage through research and innovations.
Other members of the research project include Photovoltaics Laboratory of the Institute of Microengineering at EPFL, Switzerland, the Universities of Northumbria, UK, Bosch Solar Thin Film, Germany and Heliosphera in Greece.
The new plan is also expected to pay environmental dividends as it will reduce the environmental impact of the overall module production process.
