Luxfer makes £1m-plus investment in UK production site

Luxfer Gas Cylinders will invest more than £1m in a new production facility to support gas pipelines that can distribute hydrogen across the UK and Europe.

Set for production next year (2024), the site will produce multiple element gas containers – or MEGCs – to support Europe in its decarbonisation goals for 2030 and beyond.

Specifically, Luxfer’s G-Stor™ Hydrosphere range will be manufactured at the site in both 20-foot, 40-foot, and 45-foot solutions that can store up between 0.5 and 1.4 tonnes of clean gas.

It is hoped that the new facility will make hydrogen both more affordable and accessible.

Mark Lawday, Vice-President and General Manager of Luxfer Europe, described the investment as a natural step in building out the company’s European hydrogen capability.

Luxfer’s Nottingham site currently produces up to one million cylinders each year.

Nick Herbert, Sales Director at Luxfer Europe, says that ownership of core cylinder technology is fundamental to being able to meet customer needs.

He added, “Because we can control the precise diameter of our cylinders through our proprietary liner manufacturing process, we can start with a blank piece of paper.”

“It gives us the ability to develop the most efficient cylinder geometry to optimise of MEGC designs and deliver customers exceptional value.”

Earlier this year Luxfer appointed a new Europe Sales Director to spearhead its ambitious growth plans in the continent in the coming years.

Asia-Pacific Industrial Gases Conference 2023

Decarbonisation and how the Asia-Pacific region pragmatically delivers against its sustainability needs in the near-term will be in focus at gasworld’s Asia-Pacific Industrial Gases Conference 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this December.

Join gasworld for its show-stopper 2.5 day event at the Renaissance Hotel & Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia under the theme of Delivering On the Promise of Growth.

Taking place from 5-7 December 2023, the conference will tackle China’s clean energy and industrial gas build-out, the hydrogen society in the APAC region, the practical means of delivering decarbonisation in emerging economies in the short-term, the economic climate in Asia-Pacific and the local industrial gas markets, electronics and specialty gases in Southeast Asia, and so much more besides.
