McPhy Energy, the stars of gasworld’s February’s company profile have announced a new contract with the Enel Group.
McPhy, a leader in solid hydrogen storage technology, recently penned an agreement with the Enel Group, for the supply of a solid hydrogen storage solution. The latest purchase offers a capacity of 2kg of solid hydrogen, stored in the form of magnesium hydrides. In doing so, the facility proffers safe, reversible hydrogen storage boasting high energy efficiency.
Pascal Mauberger, CEO of McPhy Energy, described the importance of the contract. He said, “With this order, McPhy has achieved the first milestone in our business development plan. Enel’s confidence in our innovative energy storage technology enables us to look to the next phase of large-scale deployment on the grid.”
A prototype of the system was validated through a series of tests at the CEA-LITEN (the French National Laboratory of Innovation for New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials). Tests saw the prototype tank coupled to an electrolyser and to a fuel cell, thus demonstrating successful storage of renewable energy.
