MHP makes first shipment of Ukraine bio-LNG to EU

International food and agriculture company MHP has launched commercial production of liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) and completed the first export shipment of Ukrainian-made bio-LNG to a partner in the EU.

MHP’s bio-LNG is produced entirely from poultry litter and other agricultural residues.

The ISCC EU-certified product is fully compliant with the EU’s RED II/III sustainability framework. ISCC stands for International Sustainability & Carbon Certification, while RED is the Renewable Energy Directive framework establed for Europe.

Adomas Audickas, Deputy CEO of MHP Group responsible for bioenergy development, said the launch of bio-LNG exports confirms MHP’s leadership in bioenergy.

“We are turning poultry waste into climate-positive fuel that can power trucks and ships across Europe today,” he said.

MHP has been investing in bioenergy infrastructure for over a decade. Listed on the London Stock Exchange, the company operates in agriculture, food production, and retail, with manufacturing facilities in Ukraine and south-eastern Europe, as well as subsidiaries in the Netherlands, UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other EU countries.

Financial support from institutions like the International Finance Corporation and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has enabled the group to invest $400m into the Ukraine economy, establishing it as one of the top three largest investors in the country in the past two-and-a-half years.
