Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) said it has produced 100 million cubic meters of industrial gases, including oxygen, nitrogen and argon, at its new cryogenic air separation unit (ASU).

The RUB 4.2bn ($63.6m) unit was built on the site of MMK’s oxygen plant No. 5 in July 2018.

The cryogenic ASU KdAdAr-35/30, developed and manufactured by Moscow-based company Cryogenmash, generates 35,000 m3/hour of gaseous oxygen, 30,000 m3/hour of gaseous nitrogen, 600 m3/hour of gaseous argon, as well as some liquid output.

The unit is based on a modern cycle with internal compression of air separation products, which allows gas processing under the required pressure without the use of additional compressors.
