New Era Helium to embrace AI data centre tech with rebranding
US-based New Era Helium will rebrand to New Era Energy & Digital, reflecting a shift from being a pure helium and natural gas company to a vertically integrated energy and digital infrastructure platform. The move centres on powering next-generation AI and high-performance computing (HPC) campuses, with trading under the new Nasdaq ticker NUAI to begin on 13 August.
Historically focused on helium and natural gas exploration in the Permian Basin, the company holds undeveloped helium and gas reserves. Its new strategy reframes those assets as part of a broader offering that integrates behind-the-meter natural gas power generation, “powered land” with grid or energy access, and “powered shells” – data centre-ready facilities that can be rapidly deployed.
At the centre of this pivot is the Texas Critical Data Centers (TCDC) project in Ector County, Texas. This is a scalable AI and HPC campus with capacity of up to 1 GW, developed in partnership with Sharon AI. The joint venture follows a November 2024 agreement to build a 90 MW net-zero data centre in the Permian Basin, an area better known for its oil and gas production.
