Nikkiso to supply LNG equipment for Bahamas power project
US clean energy specialist Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group will supply liquefied natural gas regasification and cryogenic equipment for the New Providence gas project in Nassau, the Bahamas.
The project involves an LNG receiving terminal in support of additional power generation at Clifton Pier. It aims to cut carbon emissions at the site by using LNG instead of diesel to power new and upgraded gas turbines.
Nikkiso CE&IG will manufacture and deliver the LNG packaged regasification system and provide engineering services for the project.
Once fully operational, the New Providence gas project will have the capacity to regasify 55 million cubic feet of LNG a day.
Adrian Ridge, President and CEO of Nikkiso CE&IG Group, said, “This project is a good insight into how important cryogenic equipment is for companies like NPG looking to expand lower-carbon power generation.”
The Bahamas hopes to source 30% of its energy needs through renewables by 2030. The country has recognised LNG as a bridge to this adoption.
Its renewable energy efforts are supported by a $9m EU grant and an $80m Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan.
