Nippon Gases emissions are down 44% in six years
Industrial gases business Nippon Gases, the European operation of Japanese major Nippon Sanso, has cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 44% in absolute terms since 2019, according to its latest sustainability report.
The reduction was driven by a focus on sustainable advances and a record year for renewables outputs, with 39% of its manufacturing processes now powered by renewable energy.
It follows the launch of the company’s 2022 decarbonisation campaign, ‘We enable a carbon-neutral world,’ and its recent decision to join the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – a collaboration between leading global organisations that helps companies to set emissions reduction targets.
“Last year we joined SBTi, and our GHG emission targets were validated to align with limited global warning to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, as per the Paris Agreement, therefore we expected to continue our trend to reduce GHG emissions,” said Raoul Giudici, President of Nippon Gases.
