PDC Machines partners with KPCL to advance hydrogen compression in India

Pennsylvania-based high-pressure diaphragm compression systems manufacturer PDC Machines has signed an agreement with Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited (KPCL) to offer diaphragm compressors in India.

The agreement is a response to the increased demand in the hydrogen compression space in India as the country enhances its focus on hydrogen to support its decarbonisation targets.

Under the terms of the deal, KPCL will extend its product portfolio to offer PDC’s diaphragm compression technology. KPCL will also have access to PDC’s aftermarket services team to provide customer support both remotely and in the field.

Kareem Afzal, Executive Chairman for PDC Machines, said, “The collaboration will position both KPCL and PDC to support India’s hydrogen ambitions at a critical juncture for the emerging industry.”

In addition to serving the hydrogen industry, PDC and KPCL will continue to support industrial and specialty gas applications in the region.

PDC Machines’ diaphragm gas compressors are integral to hydrogen refuelling stations.

Arguably the heart of a hydrogen refuelling station, the compressor is key and makes the infrastructure come to life. Station developers simply could not dispense a product without compressors and technologies. It’s the compression technologies that essentially enable refuelling at speeds of three-to-five minutes.

More than just a ‘box standard’ compressor, with PDC, the focus is diaphragm compression. This means no lubricants are involved in the compressor, meaning there is no or less potential for impurities to get through the compression stage and into the final hydrogen fuel, resulting in a cleaner and greener refill.
