POINT.P and CarbiCrete to open low-carbon concrete plant in France
Industrial materials companies POINT.P and Canada’s CarbiCrete will open France’s first cement-free concrete block production line next year, which will eliminate all cement-related emissions from its production and permanently sequester carbon dioxide.
Located at POINT.P’s Hauts-de-France site, the plant will produce 20,000 tonnes of cement-free concrete blocks in its first year, with plans to double capacity in 2027.
The news marks CarbiCrete’s entry into the French market. CEO Jacob Homiller said the milestone paved the way for wider adoption of its novel and low-carbon cement production method across Europe.
CarbiCrete’s process replaces cement with steel slag, an industrial by-product of steel. The concrete is then hardened by injecting captured CO2, which is permanently removed when it is sequestered within the blocks.
