Praxair Canada, a subsidiary of Praxair, Inc, has finished the start-up of a cryogenic air separation plant in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
The ASU will provide 900 tons per day of gaseous oxygen to Essar Steel Algoma Inc’s steel mill. The new plant is fully integrated with Praxair’s existing air separation facilities at Essar in Sault St. Marie, increasing the total installed capacity at the site to 2,700 tons per day. The expansion will also augment the local merchant liquid capacity and as a result support the US argon markets.
Rob Hossack, Praxair Canada’s Managing Director, commented, “Our new facility provides Essar with the product they need to expand, along with a high degree of production flexibility and reliability. Essar and Praxair have had a long-term relationship in Sault Ste Marie, and this project positions us to continue to grow together in the future.”
Essar Steel Algoma’s Chief Commercial Officer Kalyan Ghosh was pleased with the alliance, “Praxair and Essar Steel Algoma have had a strong relationship for over 50 years. This capacity enhancement by Praxair is key to Essar Algoma’s growth plans in the coming years,$quot; he said.
