News in from Monterrey, where Praxair Mexico has revealed the signing of a contract with Johnson Controls to build, own and operate a vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) plant in Garcia, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Te plant will supply oxygen for a battery-recycling process in Garcia, with operations scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter of 2010.
Under the new contract, Praxair Mexico will supply 140 tons of oxygen per day to enable Johnson Controls to recover lead from 12.5 million lead-acid batteries per year. With this plant, Johnson Controls will have the capacity to recycle 100% of the batteries it produces in Mexico.
“We chose Praxair for this project, because we have been pleased with their service and reliability over a period of several years,” said Rodrigo Pavon, Strategic Projects Director at Johnson Controls.
