Praxair Inc. subsidiary, White Martins has agreed terms on an oxygen supply agreement with ArcelorMittal.
The Brazilian division of Praxair is set to provide oxygen to ArcelorMittal’s steel production facility in João Monlevade, South East Brazil. According to the agreement, White Martins will build a new air separation unit with a daily capacity of 780 tons per day. The plant boasts advanced process controls and energy-efficient process cycles. Start-up is scheduled to commence in early 2013.
Domingos Bulus, President of White Martins is keen to participate in ArcelorMittal’s future. He remarked, “We look forward to playing an important role in ArcelorMittal’s ongoing growth and contribution to Brazil’s economic progress.”
The agreement further highlights the longstanding cooperation between the two firms, which has benefited from a 20 year supply relationship. ArcelorMittal will utilise the oxygen to improve furnace efficiency and environmental performance at its steel facility.
