Reliant Processing opens liquid CO2 and dry ice plant in Missouri

Reliant Processing has opened a brand-new liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) and dry ice plant in Carrollton, Missouri, in partnership with Show Me Ethanol.

The new plant will help Reliant Holdings and its related companies improve their supply reliability and dedication to meeting their customers’ growing demands.

Scott Vanderburg, CEO of Reliant Holdings, said, “We are thankful for the opportunity to work with the community and Show Me to capture this biogenic CO2 and use it in the essential food, beverage, and industrial markets.”

“We also want to express our appreciation for the hard work of our Reliant team members to bring this supply to our customers.”

The new plant balances the use of natural resources to support food, beverage, medical, and industrial gas needs. It adheres to stringent regulatory standards and prioritises both safety and sustainability.

Vance Vanderburg, Chief Operating Officer of Reliant Holdings, described the opening as a significant investment for the communities that the company serves.

He continued, “Our dedicated team looks forward to delivering unparalleled service and value to our customers while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.”

The plant was jointly announced by Relation Processing and Show Me Ethanol, a Missouri-based biotechnology company.

The new plant comes at a critical moment in time for the CO2 market, as demand continues to grow. Speaking at gasworld’s US CO2 Summit in September 2023, Maura Garvey, President of Intelligas Consulting, stated that a minimum of five 400 tonnes per day plants need to be added by 2028 to keep up with CO2 demand.

Garvey predicted demand to grow 2% per year to 11.4 million tonnes per year.

Specifically, she noted that there will be increased demand related to dry ice, a need that Reliant will now further support with its new Missouri plant.

“I believe current demand is 10.4 million tonnes per year, and the food and beverage market represents around 70% of that demand. A lot of the growth is related to dry ice,” she told delegates at the US CO2 Summit.

Garvey said that dry ice represents around 18% of the liquid CO2 produced in the US.

North American CO2 Summit 2024

Join gasworld in September 2024 as our North American CO2 Summit heads to Nashville. More information including our theme and agenda will be released over the coming weeks – you can register your interest to ensure you stay updated.

Our North American CO2 Summit 2023 agenda was focused on how to source, move and use CO2 more effectively and sold out, so we recommend securing your space.
