Producer of liquid helium (LHe) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) Renergen has announced the start of commercial production at its LHe production plant in South Africa.
The company has begun accumulating LHe for sale to its customers, with ISO containers scheduled to arrive later this month for filling.
Renergen took over complete operational control of the plant from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) after it departed South Africa.
The company has been producing LHe since July, 2024, when it used the output to cool the vacuum jacketed pipelines and the inline helium storage tank to around 4.5K (-268C) – a temperature low enough to make sure the helium remains liquid when sent to storage.
