Royal Helium advances Forty Mile helium exploration project

Royal Helium has started the licensing and permitting process for the Forty Mile #1 exploratory helium well, located at the Forty Mile project in southeastern Alberta.

The project is made up of 7,000 acres and hosts one “historic” well, which has already been drilled and tested. The helium exploration and development company believes the results rival the best Cambrian helium discovery wells to date in Alberta.

Shayne Neigum, Chief Operating Officer at Royal Helium, described the Forty Mile project as an exciting step for Royal Helium. He also notes the project’s proximity to Royal Helium’s successful wells at Steveille and its purification plant.

He continued, “Forty Mile #1 will be targeting multiple zones and predicated on success; we look to fully develop Forty Mile with multiple drill targets already defined.”

Royal has completed the seismic work and has multiple defined drill targets across multiple prospective horizons at Forty Mile. The target horizons for Forty Mile #1 will be Devonian and Cambrian and will be drilled into the Precambrian crystalline basement.

A spud date will be announced once licensing is complete and a drilling rig is secured.

Earlier this year, Royal Helium unveiled its 2024 development plans, with its CEO saying that the company will have multiple facilities operational in the short term.

The company’s plans will be centred on completing and testing existing wells in the Val Marie, Ogema, and Steveville properties and drilling on the Forty Mile project.
