Stefan Messer made Honorary Senator of the TU Darmstadt


Stefan Messer, Managing Partner of the single largest privately managed industrial gas group, Messer, has been made an Honorary Senator of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

Messer won the accolade in response to his achievements in the promotion of research and vocational training. The Senate particularly praised Stefan Messer’s commitment as a member of the foundation board of the Adolf Messer Stiftung, which supports scientific projects and scientific and teaching facilities.

At Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences the Adolf Messer Stiftung promotes young scientists and their research with the Adolf Messer Prize, which is awarded each year and comes with prize money of €50,000.

Messer and Darmstadt University have enjoyed a longstanding alliance, described by the firm as ‘bridging generations.’ Indeed Adolf Messer – the grandfather of Stefan Messer and founder of the Messer Group – was awarded the title of Doctor Engineer as long ago as May 1949 for his groundbreaking work in the fields of welding technology, gas separation and the technical application of oxygen and in remembrance of the fact that he had his student roots in Darmstadt. Meanwhile, his son Hans Messer was also made an Honorary Senator in October 1985.
