EU member states must prepare, enable and mobilise national biomethane strategies, according to a Gas for Climate manual released today.
It highlighted 10 steps for countries to develop and implement strategies, in line with the Biomethane Action Plan under REPower EU, which targets 35 bcm production by 2030. Currently 3 bcm of biomethane and 15 bcm of biogas are produced in the EU-27.
States should begin by analysing five areas under ’Prepare’ encompassing national vision; feedstock potential assessment; production and consumption target setting; infrastructure for system integration; and regulatory and barriers assessment.
