After four major global shortages in 18 years, the greatest challenge facing the helium business in 2023, which will follow in 2024, is the uncertainty that hangs over the market and its array of end-users.

That said, the pressure is on for helium companies to start providing for the market. For North American Helium, however, it takes its role beyond just producing helium but also producing non-hydrocarbon-based helium. Also known as green helium, the product produced is from underground gas accumulations that contain very small amounts of hydrocarbons, or CO2.

But North American Helium is achieving, and this year the Canadian firm brought several new sites online. Here, in the latest instalment of gasworld’s 12 Days of Content series, we speak to Nick Snyder, Chairman and CEO of North American Helium. Snyder tells us about these landmark sites, his current view on the North American helium market, and the company’s plans for the year ahead.
