UK gas network operator awards biomethane tech contract to Utonomy

UK-based technology company Utonomy has won a contract from gas distribution network firm SGN to supply its remote pressure control and management solution to increase biomethane feed-in.

The system has been introduced on SGN’s medium pressure network on the Isle of Sheppey in south-east England. An independently owned biomethane plant is supplying gas to SGN’s network.

To date adjustments to pressures have been made manually. Utonomy can remotely change the pressures of regulators feeding the networks, ensuring biomethane injection is always prioritised over the natural gas feed-in.

SGN, which currently has 42 biomethane plants connected to its Scottish and southern England networks, aims to supply one million houses with biomethane by 2031.
