Over the last month, the UK division of BOC has undergone a number of successes. Barely days ago, the firm announced the 2011 BOC Welsh Apprentice Welder, while just yesterday, the company’s facility at Holbrook in Sheffield received certification as a testing laboratory.
BOC’s Sheffield facility was awarded ISO/IEC17025 certification by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). The award recognised a high level of competence in analytical testing. The new award means that the company can now offer customers, not only in the UK, but globally, sampling and testing services for certain aviation and breathing standards including liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen and compressed air.
Nick Ward, Head of Special Products at BOC, commented, “We are delighted with this new accreditation as a testing laboratory. It enhances our reputation for competence in sophisticated gas analysis and makes us one of an elite number of organisations offering this kind of gas analytics. This award reaffirms BOC’s position at the forefront of gas technology.”
Just prior to this the company held its annual welding competition at Coleg Powys in Newton, Wales. The event saw Ian Harries take the winning title. Paul Levie, BOC’s Area Sales Manager, explained the importance of investment in talent such as Harries. He said, “Manufacturing forms the bedrock of our society. And engineering skills like welding are vital to ensuring that we can continue to make things that our economy – and the global economy – needs. As a science and engineering based company, we are proud to investing in the future of the young people of Wales.”
