World’s biggest LNG tank


Tokyo Gas Co, Japan’s biggest natural gas utility, has said it plans to build the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank, in Yokohama, near Tokyo.

According to Reuters, Tokyo Gas sees a steady shift in the industrial sector, from coal and fuel oil, to environmentally friendly natural gas.

This has led the company to put plans in place for a 250,000 kilolitre tank, estimated to cost in the region of ¥20bn, which will be able to hold 115,000 tons of LNG, making it the largest storage facility of its kind in the world.

The tank is expected to be completed in October 2013.
